Student Council

Welcome to Student Council

(2) Student Council representatives with (1) alternative are nominated and voted on by classmates from each class in grades 4th and 5th.

Attendance Policy:  If your child is going to miss a meeting you must call the office and leave a message for Mrs. McNally, Mr. Vigil, Mrs. Beller or Mrs. Stepetic.

If we do not hear from you, this absence will be considered an unexcused absence and your child will no longer be on Student Council.  So if your child can't get to the meeting, please be sure to call and leave a message for one of us.

Spirit Days

Spirit Days are an opportunity for the entire SYJ community to show their school spirit.  During our meetings the students vote on and approve the Spirit Days for the year.  Student Council members will inform their "buddy" classes of these days and make posters to hang throughout the school.  Materials for the posters are available from Mrs. Stepetic in the Library.

TerraCycle will give us $0.01 per pouch.  We ask that the pouches be emptied and straw thrown away.  Collections pails are throughout the hallways of the school and in the Cafeteria.

Last year the Student Council donated $190.00 to the Dean Jacobs Achucar Project in the Amazon.  Dean Jacobs was our Guest Author back in October 2013.  To read more about his work with the children of the Achuar Territory in South America, please visit Dean Jacobs' website.

Pop Can Tabs

               pop tab.jpg

Your donations of pop tabs help support the Ronald McDonald House of New Mexico.  This is a city-wide contest for schools.  The pop tabs are weighed and recycled.  The money earned from recycling is then donated to Ronald McDonald House.  Tabs can be collected from beverage cans, soup cans and even pet food cans.

We have collection bins in the Cafeteria, Teachers' Lounge and Library.
